The Right Golf Swing Sequence

Mike Jerry

Introduction
As in all other sports, there is a correct golf swing sequence. In baseball, the proper sequence focuses on how to hold the bat and swing for a hit. In golf, there are three basic steps that must be followed for the right golf sequence: back swing, down swing, and the impact of hitting the ball. If your back swing is crooked, your whole swing will suffer. The down swing is when you are coming down with your swing to impact the ball. The impact, if done correctly, will have the weight of your back leg transferring to the front leg for a smooth swing that should see the ball go right where you want it to go.

The first time I heard the term I was surprised. What do you mean by golf swing sequence? Is there a right golf swing sequence? As a matter of fact there is. There is a right way to swing the club - and this is what actually makes the game of golf such a difficult thing to master initially.

There are rules for everything. You sit on your couch and watch an excellent game of golf; you can hardly imagine while watching the simplicity of the game that there is a right way to catch the club, a right way to choose a club, a right way to stand, and a right way to swing.

Golf and Its Basic Rules

This is quite intimidating when you look at it. The first thing that will run through your mind is, "Will I ever be able to learn it all?" Again, you will be surprised to hear the answers from professional golf players: "There will be a time when you will be able to play golf just the way you drive, by instinct, without thinking, without effort." It is difficult to believe this statement at first, but then this is because you are a beginner.

Golf has a number of basic rules, i.e. how to keep your hands on the club, how our legs have to be poised for the right technique, what type of club should be used where, whether the ball should leave the ground or not, whether the club should touch the ground or not, and a lot of other. Then we come back to our question, i.e. the right golf swing sequence.

What Is the Right Golf Swing Sequence?

There is indeed a right golf swing sequence and this is, actually divided into three steps: (i) back swing, (ii) down swing and (iii) the impact (of hitting the ball) and follow through.

The back swing is the critical move because if this is wrong the whole swing will go wrong. The down swing is almost automatic, though not quite so. This part is directly coordinated in the body stance with high emphasis on the feet and legs position. The last part, the impact transfers the weight and movement momentum to the arms and to the wrists where the hands swing and make the club hit the ball.

The whole movement is one fluid movement of the body by which the weight is transferred from the feet to the tip of the club to hit the ball. This is the right and only way you have for golf swing sequence.
