Different Steps to Improving Your Golf Swing

Mike Jerry

Introduction
Steps to take to improving your golf swing. There are many steps that golfers take to try and improve their golf swing. One is to use a large ball, it doesn't matter which kind of ball it is; you can use a basketball or volleyball. Put this between your knees at home and practice with your club. Swinging your club with the ball between your knees will teach you improvement in your form. Another step to try and fix your swing is one that most golfers who are just beginning tend to do. They swing fast both in the back swing and the follow-thru. By slowing it down just a little you can control where the ball goes.

Most golfers let the left knee fall towards the right knee on the back swing, and when this happens your shoulders fall and that makes your hips sway. There are a couple of different ways to combat this problem, and as a result improve your golf swing. To correct this common problem, the first thing is to imagine that your left knee during your back swing is going towards your target. Another method is to put a basketball between your knees and practice your back swing.

Stick that Thumb Out

Another terrific way of improving your golf swing is to be a hitchhiker. If you have never hitchhiked there is a good chance you have seen a hitchhiker with his/her thumb sticking out trying to get a ride. Keep this as a mental picture when you are about half way though your swing (about waist high) your thumb should be pointing towards the sky.

To Pause or Not To Pause

A more than often common mistake for most golfers is that they are swinging too fast, this doesn't mean that you should or can't swing with power and force but doing it in a controlled fashion and rhythm is the trick.

The best way to stop yourself from swinging too fast is to take a slight pause (count to one or two) at the top of your swing before you begin the downswing.

Let the Club do the Work

There has been a lot of scientific thought and a lot of research put into the making of the golf club so why not let the club do what it was designed for.

When working on improving your golf swing remember that the ultimate goal is to get the ball airborne, by hitting down and through the ball will allow the design of the club to loft the ball to its designated target.

Follow Through

All of your PGA and LPGA golfers have one thing in common and that is follow through. If you are having problems improving your golf swing, take a look at your follow through and monitor what you see.

To test yourself, put a tee about eight inches in front of the ball and make and effort to hit the ball and the tee in front. Using this method will help you with your follow through and it will be improving your golf swing.
