It is indeed the common practice to get your golf swing lesson from a pro. After all you want to emulate the masters, not those who are struggling as you do. However, let me give you an example of a caveat to this rule. I was working for about five years in a medium firm when we got out first computers. Since I was the PA of the Director, I had the privilege to get one of the first pieces. In a matter of six months the office made computers available to the rest of the office staff as well.
Sharing Is the Best Way to Learn
As soon as we got the machines - and because none of us were trained - an expert was called in to give us the ground rules. We went through the ten day training program which was theory intensive and found at the end of the program that other than putting the machine on, we were no better off than before we started. Since we did not want the management to know that we were unable to function even after the class, we learnt to share with each other every time one of us would discover something about the function of the computer. Within two months most of us were "experts" in our own rite.
How did we get there? By being able to share as a beginner would share with another. A beginner knows and feels that the other does not know even the basics, something that a pro would take for granted. Hence when a pro golf player will give you a tip or advise you in your technique he/she will glide over the basics or what he/she thinks are the basics. If you do not share the same ideas about what the "basics" are, then it is most likely that whatever he/she shows will go way over your head.
Who Can Give You the Best Golf Swing Lesson?
The best golf swing lesson or tip you will rather get from your fellow beginner or novice golf player. Each amateur golf player plans to top the game one day, and each of them are looking for a valuable tip that would smooth the path to their aim. Hence, these people, though not good enough to train you, are definitely good enough to give you a golf swing lesson or two, because they speak your language.
So next time you meet a beginner golf player, stop by an exchange a golf swing lesson with him. It might make your day and his or hers too!
